Who loves pineapple? 🍍🍍 I enjoy them not on Who loves pineapple? 🍍🍍

I enjoy them not only for their natural sweetness but also because they are rich in bromelain. Bromelain is an enzyme that helps supports digestion. It's also known to help reduce inflammation and swelling. In clinical human trials, bromelain extract has shown significant anti-inflammatory effects, reducing swelling in inflammatory conditions such as acute sinusitis, sore throat, arthritis, and gout and speeding recovery from injuries and surgery.

Why not add them to a bean stew for a nutritious tasty dinner or lunch option. 💛

Check out my "Caribbean Stew" recipe (vegan friendly, dairy and gluten free) in my free recipe e-book in the link in my bio. Enjoy! 💛

It's International ME/CFS Awareness Day today (Thu It's International ME/CFS Awareness Day today (Thursday 12th May 2022) and I thought I would highlight a few key messages on this illness. I suffered with ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), also known as CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) for several years from aged 34 so I know all too well of the impact it can have on peoples lives.

👉“You look great”
ME/CFS is an invisible illness. You might meet a friend or colleague who has it and think gosh they don’t look sick, and you might compliment them on looking so well. This leads to more isolation where they don’t feel believed, and that they are suffering from chronic ill health. The person has probably rested for days to have a window of energy to engage in life but then they crash again once they return home.

👉“Why not get some exercise”
Graded exercise has been the standard medical advice up until NICE overruled it last year in the UK (swipe to see). This advice can often make people feel worse, in some cases bedbound for decades. I learned to pace my energy, do light exercise like hatha yoga and I was able for short walks on the good days.

👉“I’m tired all the time too”
People with ME/CFS want to feel heard and understood. They experience tiredness that is not normal tiredness and it is not relieved by lots of sleep. With any type of prolonged mental or physical exertion they crash, get brain fog and many other symptoms and cannot experience that ‘normal’ feeling of having enough energy to get through a day.

👉"You're fine all your tests are normal"
ME/CFS sufferers are so disheartned when they hear this from their medical professionals. They want answers. Its ok to say, "we don't have all the answers". Listen, emphatise and be kind.

👉“Are you feeling depressed”
On my good days I had tones of motivation, I was full of determination and thoughts on what to try to get well. I certainly wasn’t depressed. On the days that I crashed I could have gone into depression but was lucky not to. Often people do get depressed out of pure frustration that nobody can help or understands.

Lots more in my blog, see link in my bio.

💜 Please share to help increase the awareness of this illness💜

🌿Looking to boost your gut health?🌿 Why not 🌿Looking to boost your gut health?🌿

Why not make this herb pesto and add it to one meal of the day.

Herbs to use: rosemary, thyme, basil, parsley, coriander, chives, sage, garlic.

1) Grind the fresh herbs (whole) in a herb grinder in addition to a little extra virgin olive oil to form a paste.
2) Leave for 3 days at room temperature.

Add these raw, fresh mixes of herbs and olive oil to salads or to food as garnish instead of during cooking so as to minimise the chance of heat destroying the helpful compounds that will help keep your gut happy.

Why not grow some herbs in your garden or in a pot on your balcony. You’ll have no excuse then to add them to your meals. My favourite's are rosemary, basil and sage. They're so easy to grow and look after.

Benefits for gut: The herbs release their phenolic compounds into the oil. These help these naturally antimicrobial substances to travel into your gut and to help you regulate your gut bugs.

Looking for a flat belly for your summer hols?🌞 Looking for a flat belly for your summer hols?🌞

There are many things to explore which I cover on my next group gut health course.

✅Dysbiosis is one of them! This happens when there is an imbalance of the gut bacteria. It could be for example due to low numbers of beneficial bacteria or high numbers of the bacteria that can cause more harm than good. Our healthy gut bacteria have many roles such as: defending us against microorganisms that can cause disease, they are anti-inflammatory and help with digestion and absorbing many essential nutrients. An overgrowth of bacteria can cause symptoms such as bloating, gas, fatigue, abdominal pain, impaired digestion, rashes or a weakened immune defence.

I cover these issues and provide you with a plan to address them on my group gut course that starts on Thursday 5th May and finishes on 23rd June.

Here is some feedback from Wendy who was on my course earlier this year.

"I’ve suffered from IBS for at least 30 years but no medical professional has ever suggested there was any treatment. It seemed like gas and diarrhea were a fact of life. But when I heard about Caroline’s course I thought, well, what’s to lose?

Over the 6 weeks we moved systematically through a process of calming the gut, trying some new things, and then gradually re-introducing some of the foods that can cause sensitivities. At no point were we pushed past our comfort level and every week Caroline’s seminars demystified gut health and how our digestive system works. I took the supplements and followed the food guidelines. Step by step my symptoms receded.

Caroline really knows her subject and is a wonderful teacher. Her manner is gentle and supportive and she always has a suggestion to help out. The included recipe book is full of easy and delicious meals. I found myself spending more time on food preparation (I could hardly have spent less) and trying new things, including kefir!

My IBS has greatly improved. I’m not constantly embarrassed around other people now. And my social life has improved! Thanks Caroline! "

Who loves oats for breakfast? Have you ever tried Who loves oats for breakfast? Have you ever tried coarse cut oatmeal?

👉Course oats also know as steel-cut oats are the least processed form.

👉Coarse oats are slightly higher in fiber than rolled and quick oats. They also have the lowest glycemic index of the three types of oats, making them a great choice for blood sugar control. This will help you feel fuller for longer, sustain energy, mood, memory and concentration.

➡️If you soak them overnight for at least 12 hour you’ll gain some big wins!
1️⃣ Helps reduce the phytic acid’s effects on mineral absorption. Phytic acid binds to minerals like iron and zinc making it difficult for your body to absorb them.
2️⃣ Helps to increase resistance starch, also known as prebiotic fiber. This doesn’t get digested in your stomach and ends up in your intestines where it provides food for your beneficial gut bacteria. One reason why I always have them on my gut health menu plans.
3️⃣Shorter cooking time and extra creaminess. No cooking if you soak in water/milk/dairy free milk and add 1 dessertspoon of whole chia seeds (lots of overnight oat recipes online) plus berries, cinnamon, nuts they’ll be ready to eat the next morning.
