Stewed apple is one of my favourite things to have Stewed apple is one of my favourite things to have during the winter months. I love having it warm topped on to porridge in the morning or as a healthy snack with some seeds and a dollop of yoghurt.

➡️ Apples are an excellent source of pectin, which is a non-starch polysaccharide that us humans cannot digest. It provides food for colonic bacteria that convert it into beneficial short chain fatty acids. These acids help maintain the health of beneficial gut bugs and the cells lining the colon. All great for our immune systems during these winter months!

➡️ The short chain fatty acids also promote epithelial growth of the cells of the intestines, thereby reducing leaky gut. The breakdown products of pectin also help to normalize intestinal contractions, and is good for preventing diarrhoea or constipation.

➡️ Cooking the apples makes them gentler on the digestive system if the gut is very inflamed.

➡️ Pectin even binds with and eliminates some heavy metals from your body.

•	3 large Bramley apples (these ones are organic from Clonmel 😍 )
•	½ Cup of water
•	2 chopped dates or 1 tbsp maple syrup
•	1 or 2 tsp cinnamon

1.	Peel & core the apples & chop them into small evenly sized pieces.
2.	Put all the ingredients in a saucepan, cover with lid & cook for 15mins stirring regularly.
3.	Cook until soft with rough shapes
4.	Can be eaten warm or cold. Can be kept in fridge for up to 3 days, or frozen in small portions.
